More than 10 years ago, I began working agile by using Smalltalk in an use case driven approach. Even though it wasn't called agile at that time, we applied pair-programming and drove our design from test cases. We also relied heavily on prototyping, used patterns and worked in an iterative-incremental fashion.

Long story short, I got hooked and thrilled about it ever since, even though my focus had shifted in the meantime from a development perspective to a management view on projects (agile project and requirements management). I realized that the people impact, especially in agile development is tremendous and will one of the major challenges to overcome towards enterprise-wide agility. That is what I have recently been focusing on. During my career, I have taught more than 1000 professionals in North America and Europe in project management, requirements management, object-oriented software engineering, Smalltalk, Java and the Rational Unified Process (RUP).

On a more personal side, I finished the Ironman triathlon distance (3.8K/180K/42K) and numorous marathons in my life, so endurance for large projects shouldn't be a problem. I enjoy cooking and follow closely my german football club Karlsuher SC in my spare-time. I live in Westchester, New York.
